If that was enough.
STASIS
by Edel Garcellano
by Edel Garcellano
The wind doesn’t stir.
Leaves hang like bats from branches.
Voices freeze in the air.
Eyes dumbly stare
in the wasteland of his heart.
Nothing moves.
Everything stays where they are
as if time has stopped
& he, a distance of a kiss from her,
sits like a frozen statue of water.
Why is it so difficult to speak?
His tongue withdraws to its root
& the language that escape from his throat
is idiotic, gibberish.
They say it was bound to happen that way:
When your feet get stuck
in a drum of words
& your arms flail in your dreams…
Nothing could be done
when she flies like a bird
into the vanishing blue
& you remain earthbound.
